The Modular Special Interest Group (SIG) has an important role to perform within the Club, as it is often the way that people first become aware of Garden Railroading in general, and of the Sacramento Valley Garden Railway Society in particular.
The SIG attends three or four events each year. They set up the modules (now approximate 30 by 40 feet), operate a variety of equipment, and explain what Garden Railroading is, the modular group does, and answer question about the Club.
The SIG began a major renovation of the modules after the Great American Train Show (GATS) held in Sacramento in 2004. All the old modules were scrapped and replaced by modules constructed all at once by Club members. The Club owns all the modules and a trailer used to carry the modules to events. The club also owns the power supplies and some of the rolling stock. The buildings and other equipment is owned by members themselves.
SIG Members (and other members of the club) attend to the modular layout, and may bring their own locomotives and cars to run on display days.
The SIG usually sets up for the GATS show in January, Rail Fair in November, the Railroad Museum over Thanksgiving Holiday.
Here's a link to our set up at the GATS show, January 8-9 at Cal Expo.
